Does a masonry contractor need a licence in Hawaii?

Yes, unless the whole job, labour and materials, costs $1,500 or less and needs no building permit. That is Hawaii's small-job exemption (HRS 444-2(4)), and it never covers part of a larger project. Look for an active C-31, C-31b licence.

Ask for the licence number and look it up on the Hawaii CLB website, or search this page. Every masonry contractor listed here was matched to an active licence on the Hawaii CLB register.

Which masonry contractors rank highest in Hilo?

By our published formula (years licensed, complaint record, bond and insurance, and Google reviews), the top three are Loeffler Construction Inc (84), C & H Ishii Gen Con Inc (82), Isemoto Contracting Co Ltd (80). Paying or claiming a listing never changes the order.

How much do masonry contractors charge in Hilo?

Masonry contractors in the Hawaii / Kauai nonmetropolitan area metro earn a median $21.25 an hour (BLS, May 2025); contractors typically bill about twice the wage to cover insurance, overhead and profit.

Do I need a lead-safe certified masonry contractor in Hilo?

If your home was built before 1978 and the work disturbs paint, yes: the law requires a firm certified lead-safe by the US Environmental Protection Agency. 54% of homes here were built before 1980 (US Census, ACS 2024 1-year), and 0 of the 9 licensed masonry contractors listed are certified.
